Westlake Students Win Tech, Engineering Awards At Festival
Westlake students won two state championships at a recent STEAM conference in Columbus.
WESTLAKE, OH — Westlake High students took home a bevy of awards, including two state championship titles, during the Technology and Engineering Educators Association state conference. The event was held alongside the MakerX festival in Columbus.
Westlake students won two "Best of Show" titles in separate technology categories. They also added a "Best of Show" runner-up award.
Here are the students who won a "Best of Show" award: seniors Jacob Meyer, Mickey Hamila, Arya Kirpekar and Drew Mather won the award for their "Opportunity Zones House" and energy efficient model home design. Their award came in the Construction and Architecture technology category.

Junio Ali Aboumerhi won a "Best of Show" award for his Pipe Vise drawing and 3D printed project in the Computer Generated technology category.

- Sophomore Ethan Waring won a runner-up Best of Show award for his Drill Press Vise drawing and 3D printed project
- Junior Arya Kirpekar won a first place award in the engineering technology category for invention and innovation for her "W Shop" entrepreneur project
- Tim Gerent, John Mudryk, Danny Kennan and Shane Burich won a second place award for their "Opportunity Zones House" and energy efficient model home design
- Senior Jacob Meyer and juniors John Mudry and Danny Kennan won an Award of Merit ribbon for their "USS Cod Visitor Center" design
- Sophomore Sia Bavishi won an Award of Merit for her "Smart Park" entrepreneurship project
Finally, to cap off the day, Westlake High School's technology and engineering department won a runner-up Best of Conference award in the outstanding technology display category.
