Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:
- A Beaverton burrito may be to blame for an athlete's failed drug test. Shelby Houlihan, a double American record holder and Olympic hopeful, tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and is barred from participation in the upcoming Tokyo games. Houlihan claims the steroids came from a burrito she purchased at a food truck near her training headquarters at Nike. The World-Anti Doping Agency has issued a warning about the possibility of false-positive results for individuals consuming pig offal. (Washington Post)
- OPB's Rebecca Ellis reports that one Washington County town is poised to eliminate one-fifth of its affordable housing even as the eviction moratorium ends. Real estate investment company Hamilton Zanze anticipates bringing 172 of its units in Tigard to market-rate over the next couple of years. (OPB)
- Washington County announced on June 8 that the organization will start rolling out Supportive Housing Services (SHS) program funds beginning July 1. The funds will support a network of at least 38 community-based organizations and service providers to provide 1,665 supportive housing placements, create a 250-bed shelter system and promote quality of care for those experiencing homelessness. - The Washington County Sheriff's Office reports a crash that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Monday evening. The accident occurred near SW Bald Peak Road and Farmington. (@WCSOOregon)
- Sunset High School alum Caspar Corbeau is set to compete in the Tokyo Olympics this summer. The competitive swimmer has dual citizenship and will swim for the Dutch national team. (Beaverton Valley Times)
