- Steven Pokallus was one of nine people in Washington County who died as a result of the recent heatwave. His family remembers him in an article by Fox12 Oregon as always willing to lend a hand. Pokallus was found with only two fans in his home following area temperatures of up to 118. (Fox12)
- More on the June assault at a Beaverton MAX station: Patrick Vandyke and Travis Nordseth relate what happened as they got off the MAX and heard screaming nearby. The pair ran towards the trouble, frightening the assailant and then assisting the victim. Beaverton Police call Vandyke and Nordseth "Good Samaritans." (KOIN)
- Kelcie Grega gives a rundown of the five local transportation projects that could benefit from the INVEST in America Act. Part of the $19.36 million allocated to NW Oregon will go to making the Beaverton Downtown Loop friendlier for pedestrians and cyclists. Other funds will go to safety upgrades for TV Highway as well as projects in Portland, Newburg and Warrenton. (Pamplin Media Group)
- Sen. Kate Lieber, D-Beaverton, recently helped push a $474 million behavior healthcare spending package through the Oregon legislature. Money is slated to go to housing and residential treatment, certified community behavioral health clinics that feature primary care and incentives to increase Oregon's behavioral health care workforce. Additional funds will go to increasing efficiency in the behavior healthcare system and adding beds to the Oregon State Hospital in Junction City for those who need treatment prior to standing trial. - Feds report that unemployment in the Beaverton area is down. Washington County had an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent in May, nearly 1 percent lower than statewide. (Patch)
