Beaverton Approves Lodging Tax to Help Pay for Arts Center
Tax, which goes into effect in October, does not sit well with hotel owners.

Beaverton approved a four percent lodging tax Tuesday night that will help pay for anew arts center for the city.
The revenue will contribute about one third of the $46.5 million needed to build the facility.
While hotel operators have opposed the tax - and are contemplating a lawsuit challenging to - the council passed it 4-1.

The tax, which is scheduled to go into effect October 1, will be on top of a nine percent tax from Washington County and one percent tax from the state.
The center - which will include a 450-seat center, gallery space, and classrooms, among other features - would also be paid for with a bond the voters will consider in November as well as a series of donations.
