David Hoff of Beaverton was a carpenter who worked in conditions where he was exposed to asbestos.
Hoff is the only member of his crew known to have come down with mesothelioma.

Scientists have determined that it could decades for the cancer to develop.
The size of the verdict is in part because Hoff only has about 18 more months to live. If he had not developed mesothelioma, it's expected he would have lived another 17 years.
