A committee of community volunteers will review the public submissions and make a selection of 3-5 names for Beaverton City Council consideration in June. An unveiling event will be held in August (either virtual, in-person, or a combination of both) to celebrate the name selection and recently completed installation of public art sculptures in the plaza.
The three illuminated stainless-steel sculptures are in the form of abstract Beaverton Police badges created by artist Blessing Hancock. The work, titled “Insignia,” represents the motto of the Beaverton Police Department: Courage, Compassion and Integrity. The sculptures are illuminated by LED lights that can change colors and include many words that reflect the BPD’s motto collected from the community in 2019.
The artwork was made possible through the city’s 1% for Art Program. Visit www.BeavertonOregon.gov/arts to learn more.
The city completed construction on the new Public Safety Center building in 2020, located at the corner of Hall Blvd. and Allen Blvd., which included the creation of the new public plaza.
