City Of Beaverton: New Climate Action Task Force Accepting Applications

(Beaverton, OR) – The City is forming a Climate Action Task Force to enhance City Council awareness of community perspectives on climate change. In March, the Council approved a new task force that can provide critical feedback to staff based on lived experiences. This task force will advise and make recommendations to the Mayor, the Council, and staff on issues related to the Beaverton Climate Action Plan. 

Many Beaverton residents are passionate about the City’s work related to climate change. This task force will help ensure community voices and perspectives – particularly those of vulnerable communities – are reflected as work continues towards achieving the City’s climate goals and a livable home for current and future generations. 

“We’re going to bring new voices that haven’t traditionally been at the table,” said Mayor Beaty. “We are actively recruiting community members who can provide diverse perspectives, social networks, and expertise around the City’s climate action work.” 

The City is especially encouraging applications from traditionally underrepresented groups and those who have affiliation or expertise in areas relevant to climate action and/or community engagement. 

“We have an ambitious goal—zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” said Beaty. “To meet our goal, we must act at the City-level, the resident-level, the business-level, and everything in between. I hope you’ll consider applying to be part of this exciting new task force so that together we can create a healthier, more sustainable community.” 

Applications will be accepted until May 23, 2021. Members will be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council for up to a three-year term, beginning in July 2021. Stipends will be provided to task force members for their participation.
