  1. A Hillsboro man was sentenced to 37 years in prison last week. Ryan Keanaaina, 44, was found guilty of first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of luring a minor, three counts of third-degree sexual abuse, private indecency, first-degree attempted sexual abuse and third-degree attempted sexual abuse.   2. The community continues to mourn those who died because of the recent heatwave, including 90-year-old Atsuko Smith of Cedar Mill. Smith is remembered as a long-time figure in the Washington County Buddhist community. She was found Tuesday in her Cedar Mill apartment, where she had lived for 30 years. Her apartment was not equipped with air conditioning. (OregonLive)
  3. KGW recaps Sunday's local holiday festivities. Officials urged Washington County residents to abstain from fireworks at home because of dry weather, encouraging locals to attend professional shows instead. Thousands opted for a Fourth of July baseball game at Ron Tonkin Field, which featured a fireworks show for the sold-out crowd. (KGW)
  4. A Beaverton man aired his concerns about the state's reopening from COVID-19 restrictions in a letter to the editor of the Oregonian. Michael C. Morton cites Delta-variant breakthroughs in Israel despite a population that's highly vaccinated among the reasons for his opposition. (OregonLive)
  5. Cedar Mill News provides an update on the large, 38.5-acre Dinihanian lot along Cornell Road. Some residents expressed concern regarding the overgrowth of blackberries and other weeds and the presence of homeless camps on the property. Despite a possible lack of consensus about the residential-zoned lot in the past, all owners now appear inclined to sell. (Cedar Mill News)
