Welcome to Juneteenth, readers! In today's edition, you'll find info about the death of a suspected burglar following an officer-involved shooting, a threat to the local water supply and where to commemorate emancipation on this fine day.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Beaverton PD reports that a burglary suspect died Thursday night after sustaining gunshot wounds during a police pursuit. The suspect, identified as Shawn Michael Roy Montoya, 32, shot himself and was shot in the torso by police. (OregonLive)
  2. Local authorities and the State of Oregon announced a regional chlorine shortage due to manufacturing problems at a Longview chlorine production facility. Clean Water Services reports an adequate supply of chlorine to disinfect and clean wastewater at this time but asks customers to reduce their water use to help conserve the supply.   3. Beaverton will be well represented at the Tokyo Olympics this summer! Portland Monthly's Margaret Seiler offered a round-up of local athletes headed to the games in July. Fencer Mariel Zagunis, Nike-based runner Galen Rupp and baseball's DJ Johnson are among the official participants. (Portland Monthly)
  4. Washington County is getting serious about reaching vaccine goals. Adults in the region who get vaccinated by June 27 will be eligible to win $10,000. A $20,000 college scholarship is available for those between the ages of 12 to 17. (KOIN)
  5. The Washington County Sheriff's Office requests information and possible additional victims after arresting Jerry Nesseth, 58, a former employee of Oregon Adventure Ministries. Nesseth faces charges of sex abuse in the first degree. Those with information should contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 503-629-0111. (@WSCOOregon)
