Mail Thief Fleeing Deputies Crashes During Chase: Sheriff
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says that a 42-year-old man from from Southeast Portland crashed while fleeing deputies.

HILLSBORO, OR – A 42-year-old man from Southeast Portland is in the hospital Wednesday recovering from injuries suffered during a car crash. The Washington County Sheriff's Office says that the man crashed his car while fleeing deputies.
They say that he was a suspect in a mail theft.
Deputies had been called to the Clermont Apartments on the 1800 block of Northwest 143rd Avenue in the Oak Hills neighborhood.

It was just after 12:30 a.m. and a caller said that someone had broken into a community mailbox and fled.

The caller was able to provide a license plate and description of the car,
About 20 minutes later, deputies found the car on 26 by Sylvan and tried to stop him.
Deputies say that the driver fled, leading them on a chase on Skyline Boulevard.
The sheriff says that the man crashed east of the tunnel on West Burnside after failing to negotiate a turn.
The man was rushed to the hospital.
In the car, deputies say that they found a stolen license plate and burglary tools.
The man, who has not yet been charged, is being looked at in connection with mail thefts in the Bethany neighborhood, deputies say.
