Happy Monday everybody! Here are a few top news items and events to enjoy for today. The highlights include a recap of what community members accomplished despite the atmospheric river, a planned extension of the MAX Red Line and a chance to brush up outdoor painting skills.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. The region experienced an atmospheric river this weekend, as rainfall rates increased in areas along and west of I-5. Some locations recorded as much as 1.5 inches of rain by Sunday evening. The moisture has brought some relief in the face of possible drought. (@MarkNelsonKPTV and @WeatherJefe)
  2. A rainy weekend couldn’t stop BSD graduates from celebrating! Mountainside, Westview and Aloha were among the schools that said goodbye to their seniors over the last couple of days. (BSD)
  3. Another group in the area showing resilience in the face of inclement weather was the Hillsboro Hops. The minor league baseball team triumphed 5-3 in its series against the Tri-City Dust Devils. Officials ended the Saturday game in the top of the fifth due to rain. (MILB)
  4. Trimet is receiving $15.7 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program. The money is designated for reliability improvements to MAX Red Line from the Beaverton Transit Center to Downtown Hillsboro. The project will allow riders to travel to the airport from the Downtown Hillsboro stop without transfers. (Railway Age)
  5. The Oak Hills Homeowners Association announces that the headliner for the group’s popular July 4 celebrations will be the Michael Allen Harrison Superband. The new-age musician is a resident of the neighborhood. (Beaverton Valley Times)
