OLCC Alcohol Sales Check Results In 90 Percent Compliance
The sting on Sept. 19 saw results slightly lower than in 2016, but considerably higher than in 2009, Tigard police officials said.

TIGARD, OR — Tigard businesses boasted a 90 percent compliance rate following an Oregon Liquor Control Commission-led sting to check alcohol sales to minors. Nine out of the 10 businesses visited by Tigard officers, an OLCC inspector, and a 19-year-old volunteer followed the law and did not sell alcohol to the minor decoy.
According to Tigard police spokesman Jim Wolf, Tigard's latest compliance rate exceeds the 2018 state average of 78 percent. Additionally, the results from the Sept. 19 check fall in line with Tigard's more recent alcohol sales stings, with compliance checks in 2016 returning a 100 percent compliance rate.
A check in 2009, however, returned a 30 percent compliance — a dismal result, Wolf said in a statement, adding other unannounced checks are expected throughout the year.

"One way police are working to combat the problem of underage drinking is to partner with coalitions that help educate and support our community’s youth in efforts to promote healthy and substance-free lifestyles. Tigard Turns the Tide is one example," he explained. "You can learn more about this community coalition at TigardTurnsTheTide.org. In addition, Tigard Police plan on continued enforcement and additional compliance checks to reaffirm the importance to affected businesses that the sale of alcohol to minors will not be tolerated."
