Police Recover 2 Stolen Vehicles, Property During Arrest
Laramie Mayes, 47, was in the middle of an apparent heist when he was arrested by Beaverton police Tuesday, officials said.

BEAVERTON, OR — Police on Tuesday recovered two stolen vehicles and evidence of other thefts when they arrested Laramie John Mayes in Beaverton. Officers are actively working to identify and locate the owners of the allegedly stolen property, according to Beaverton police spokesman Jeremy Shaw.
Mayes, 47, is being held at Washington County Jail multiple charges, which include two counts each for possession of a stolen vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and one count each for theft, identity theft, and attempt to elude police. His bail is set at $1,000.
Beaverton police just after 7:45 a.m. Oct. 30 received a report that a white 2007 Nissan NV van was stolen from the area near Southwest Gem Lane and Southwest Cedar Hills Boulevard. The theft was reported within minutes of the theft actually occurring, Shaw said.

As officers followed up to investigate, they found the van in an area behind businesses at the Cedar Hills Shopping Center, near Southwest Walker Road and Southwest 123rd Avenue, less than half a mile from where the van was taken.
Officer approaching the van reportedly spotted a man later identified as Mayes unwrapping boxes that were believed to have been in the van when it was taken. When Mayes saw the approaching officers, he fled on foot, Shaw said.

Another officer responding to the area then saw Mayes hop into a gray 2012 Mazda 3, Shaw said. The officer initiated a traffic stop, but Mayes continued his flight and pulled behind the Dollar Tree around the corner, at Southwest Walker Road and Southwest Cedar Hills Boulevard.

As more officers converged on the area, they found Mayes inside the Dollar Tree and arrested him without further incident, Shaw said.
During the subsequent investigation officers learned Shaw came to the area in the Mazda, which was also allegedly stolen, as were its displayed license plates. Additionally, the Mazda was loaded with more allegedly stolen property.
Police will work to determine the stolen property's original owner(s), Shaw said.
