Poorly Planned Park Prank Ends In Arrest: Sheriff

Kadin Moore told police she was playing a prank when she pointed a realistic-looking toy gun at three people walking in Vista Brook Park.

RALEIGH HILLS, OR — Washington County deputies on Sunday arrested a suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at three people walking through Vista Brook Park in Raleigh Hills. The suspect, Kadin E. Moore, told deputies it was a prank, and the gun, investigators learned, was just a realistic-looking toy Airsoft pistol.

Moore, 19, of Beaverton, was taken to Washington County Jail and charged with menacing. Moore has since been released.

Deputies were dispatched just after 11 p.m. Aug. 26 to Vista Brook Park, 6697 S.W. 88th Ave. after a group of people asked a homeowner in the neighborhood to call 911.

The group of three later told deputies they were walking through the park when a person approached and pointed a gun at them. It's unclear if any words were said, but the trio reportedly ran out of the park toward a random home, where they asked the resident to call police.

After the trio described the suspect and the gun, deputies searched the park and along Fanno Creek Trail — where on July 19 a 28-year-old woman was assaulted and raped.

After a brief search, deputies reportedly found Moore and identified her as the suspect based on witness descriptions. Moore, who identifies as a woman, told investigators she was just playing a prank on the three victims. None of the victims knew Moore prior to incident, sheriff's officials said.

After Moore's arrest, deputies learned the gun was an Airsoft toy.

Moore does not have any apparent criminal history in Oregon.

Sheriff's officials confirmed there is no reason to believe this incident is at all connected to the sexual assault that occurred in July. Anyone with information about either incident, however, is encouraged to call Washington County Sheriff's deputies at 503-629-0111.
