Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Ashley Hartmeier-Prigg and Jerome Sibayan will vie once more for the open City Council seat this fall. Hartmeier-Prigg came out ahead of Sibayan in the special elections last month but did not achieve 50 percent of the vote, triggering the upcoming September runoff. (Beaverton Valley Times)
  2. Rich Scinto reports that unemployment is improving in Washington County, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The County’s April numbers stood at just 5.3 percent unemployed, compared to 10.7 percent in April of 2020. (Patch)
  3. Beaverton High School’s three-star quarterback from the Class of 2016, Sam Noyer, has entered the transfer portal in search of a new home, Barrett Sallee reports. Noyer played for Colorado University Buffaloes from 2016 to 2020. He’s considered one of the PAC-12’s best quarterbacks. (CBS Sports)
  4. Oregon’s state song is getting a makeover with the help of Beaverton resident Amy Shapiro, who suggested the changes. The state legislature approved the altered "Oregon, My Oregon" lyrics in order to remove racist language and make the song more inclusive. (KEZI)
  5. Andrew Steven Faulkner, 25, was convicted and sentenced this week after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault against a federal officer. The Beaverton resident’s crimes took place during protests in downtown Portland last summer. (Beaverton Valley Times)
