5 Portland Must-Try Fall Tasting Events

Looking for a fresh squeezed apple cider? How about a handmade doughnut? Check out these local food tasting events.

PORTLAND, OR - Portland is home to a variety of different restaurants-the amount can seem daunting. From complex, beer based meals to scratch made doughnuts paired with fresh local cider, Portland has plenty of food tasting events to choose from.

  • Oyster Social and Seafood Social will occur November 4, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. It's a great way to taste an entire flight of fresh, local oysters. It's a pop-up event that Tourant hosts each Friday. Tourant is a culinary event space and boutique catering company in Portland. Since the weather has gotten colder, many of the dishes they will offer will be hot. Think clam chowder or steamed mussels cooked in herbs and butter. The dishes are served tapas style and there are no reservations necessary.

  • The East Burn - Beer Belly Dinner is a dinner event hosted the second Thursday of each month by Chef Brad Smoak. It's a creative and experimental dinner that pairs different craft beer with local ingredients in order to bring out the strength and quality of local Portland cuisine. It's open from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday - Friday and 11 a.m. to midnight on the weekends.

  • Packer Orchards and Bakery is hosting a family-friendly event for pumpkin cider tasting and fresh baked doughnut tasting just a few miles down the road from Portland in Mt. Hood. It's free to attend, and the kids will stay entertained with the corn maze. Pick up some famous Packer jams, pies and cookies and make your Thanksgiving cooking that much easier. It's open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily.

  • Downtown Portland Food Tour is a great way to experience the different local flavors that Portland has to offer. Created by Forktown Food Tours, the Downtown Portland tour includes 6 separate stops at different well-respected Portland restaurants. It's roughly 3 hours long and tickets cost $79. This tour can accommodate tours of up to 12 people.

  • North Mississippi Avenue Tour occurs on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. It's roughly 3 hours long and tickets are $75. The tours can accommodate groups of up to 14 people. It's considered a "Must-See" tour for out-of-towners, and includes historical, artistic, cultural and experimental eating experiences. The menu can be altered for vegetarians, non-alcoholic beverage requests and gluten and dairy-free specialties.
