  1. Investigators are blaming fireworks for the cause of the fire at the Heidi Manor Apartments. The NE Portland apartment complex went up in flames during the early morning hours of July 4th, claiming the lives of two residents and injuring others. (KGW)
  2. Multnomah County Commissioners have voted to extend the eviction moratorium. Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury said that the demand for rental assistance in Multnomah county is twice as high as all other Oregon counties combined. This new extension of the moratorium will last until September. (OPB)
  3. Oregon Governor Kate Brown has been added to President Biden's Council of Governors. The council is a bipartisan group of 9 governors designed to facilitate coordination between federal and state governments. (KXL)
  4. Is there a silver lining to the pandemic? According to Oregon State University Associate Professor Gaurav Sahay there is. He says that the pandemic drove a dramatic advancement in vaccine technology, likening the shift to mRNA vaccines to the shift from the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution. (KOIN)
  5. Several Oregon cities are seeing tax revenue from cannabis sales slip through their fingers due to the passage of Measure 110. This measure replaced incarceration with drug treatment programs, and funded those programs with money from marijuana sales. Lobbyists estimate that towns will see a 73% reduction in tax dollars from the marijuana industry. (Willamette Week)

  1. Cruzin' in the Pines, hosted by Shady Pines Radio, is holding its first in-person event and will be broadcasting live from the Cruzroom's new outdoor space. Located on NE Alberta, there will be DJ's spinning and chatting. Donations are appreciated. Music starts at 3:00 PM and goes on all night long.
  2. Enjoy an evening in St. John's listening to psych-rock/hip hop trio Free Creatures, Santa Cruz hip hop duo DRFTR and "cosmic Americana" soloist Cassandra Lewis as they play live at Green Anchors. Get yer tickets online. Music from 8:00 PM - midnight.
  3. Relive some childhood memories by going to the Clinton Street Theater as they show The Iron Giant. This animated film pits an innocent giant alien robot against a paranoid U.S. government agent, with a nine-year-old boy caught in the middle. Film starts at 4:00 PM.
  4. There will be a Brazilian Festival today featuring music, games and dance. Traditional food and drinks will be available for purchase. It's happening at Favela Cafe on SE Foster. 4:00 - 9:00 PM.
  5. It's about time! The King Louie Trio will be playing at Studio One Theater in SE Portland. Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductee Louis "King Louie" Pain and saxophonist Renato Caranto have been musical partners for over 2 decades. They will be joined by drummer Micah Kassell. There is no cover, but attendees must make reservations. 6:30 - 9:30 PM.
