Burgerville Says Data Breach May Have Hit Credit Card Customers
Burgerville says that anyone who used a credit card at one of their locations between Sept. 2017 and Sept. 2018, may be affected.

PORTLAND, OR – While you might have wanted fries with your meal, it's more than likely that you didn't want a data breach. Yet, that's what Burgerville customers who used a credit card at one of their locations over the past year may have received.
The company said Wednesday that they'd been victimized by hackers in Aug. 2017.
As a result, anyone who used a credit card at a Burgerville between Sept. 2017 and Sept. 30, 2018 may have had their information compromised. Get all the latest information on what's happening in your community by signing up for Patch's newsletters and breaking news alerts.

"We realize that this intrusion was not only on Burgerville’s system, but also on your life," the company's interim chief executive officer, Jill Taylor said in a statement. "This isn’t what you expected to happen when you came to visit one of our locations.
"Beyond a breach of information, this type of intrusion impacts our way of life together. Feeling safe and having trust, these are core tenets of building a resilient community."

Burgerville says that potentially impacted customers should:
- Review their card statements for any unauthorized charges. If there is something suspicious, they should contact their credit or debit card company immediately to report the activity.
- Obtain a copy of their credit report and look for unauthorized activity there, too. People can get a free copy of their credit report once every 12 months from each of the three top credit reporting agencies. To obtain an annual free credit report, please visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228.
- They may also want to consider freezing their credit. As of September 21, 2018, freezing credit is a free service provided by the three major credit bureaus. Customers can go to each of the credit bureau websites listed below and locate the security freeze information.

- For Experian: www.experian.com/freeze
- For TransUnion: www.transunion.com/credit-freeze
The company has set up a call center for concerned customers with further questions. Call 1-855-336-6688 (toll-free, US only) anytime between the hours of 6:00am-6:00pm (PST) Monday through Saturday.
Burgerville was notified of the breach this past August.
The FBI notified them that they were one of more than 100 companies in 47 states had been victimized by three members of an international crime group, Fin7, who had been arrested.
As Burgerville did an internal review, they discovered the extent of the breach.
