Cascades Get Winter Weather Advisory, Coast Gets Flood Advisory

If you're planning on traveling over the Cascades Sunday or Monday, be prepared for winter weather. If you're on the coast, watch for floods

PORTLAND, OR – Whether you plan on traveling over the Cascades or to the coast on Sunday or Monday, there is something you should know. The weather outside will likely be frightful.

The National Weather Service has issued a pair of advisories warning people who plan on heading in either direction.

There is a winter weather advisory for the Cascades and a flood advisory for the coast.

"A period of heavy snow will likely impact the Cascades," forecasters from the National Weather Service's Portland office.

"Snow levels will likely remain below Santiam and Willamette Pass elevations through Monday so winter-like travel conditions will be more prevalent at these passes this weekend and continuing into Monday."

In all, they expect eight to 16 inches of accumulation, with the heaviest snow above 4,000 feet.

It will have started late Saturday afternoon and continue through 4 a.m. on Monday.

"Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving," they say.

Meanwhile on the coast, there is a flood advisory through MOnday afternoon.

"Fraser Road in Tillamook County and Highway 101 near South Beach and Raymond in Pacific County are the most likely locations to experience water over the road," forecasters say.

Back in Portland and the Valley, it's expected to be wet.

Forecasters are calling for 90 percent chance of precipitation in the day and 90 percent at night. In other words, good chance of rain day and night.

The high will be just below 50 degrees with a win of about 10 miles per hour.

The low will be at night and be about 43 degrees with a slightly calmer wind.
