Donate Thanksgiving Dinner To Homebound Seniors

Meals on Wheels People needs 1,500 volunteers to help with its Donate Dinner campaign in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

PORTLAND, OR — Meals on Wheels People has begun its annual volunteer recruitment effort seeking folks who'd like to help their communities by distributing cards to holiday shoppers at various grocers around the metro region in the days leading up to Thanksgiving Day. The cards invite shoppers to throw a few additional holiday meal staples into their baskets to donate to a homebound senior for their Thanksgiving meal.

Meals on Wheels People hopes to reach 1,500 volunteers for the Donate Dinner campaign, which takes place Nov. 17 - 21. Thanksgiving Day is Nov. 22. Last year, generous community members donated $250,000.

As a volunteer, you'll be asked to greet shoppers as they enter the participating independent grocery store and provide them with a card explaining how to donate a dinner to Meals on Wheels People when they're ready to checkout.
