As of 5 PM Tuesday November 17, 2020 all 36 elected Oregon Republicans*1 indicated that they have NOT accepted that Joe Biden is the President-Elect of the United States of America. Evidence of Biden’s win was included in the email asking for their position*2.
All 36 Oregon elected Republicans*1 have been Trump collaborators for four years. Their cultish devotion to Donald Trump now culminates in open hostility to the very ideas of democracy and truth in Oregon and America. This is dangerous.

The Republican Party is much worse off than we thought

Not a few weak-kneed Republicans recognize the folly of the anti-democratic grifters who would lead the party out of democratic, truth-based politics. These figures think they can humor Right-wing Nationalists or wait them out. The spineless Republicans would do well to recognize they cannot coexist with those who refuse to operate in the real world and adhere to the dictates of democracy.
What the Reality Caucus can no longer do is pretend that they have an overlapping vision or shared values with the Right-wing Nationalists — the cultists, the white supremacists and the purveyors of nonstop lies. The longer the Reality Caucus members fool themselves and remain in an alliance with Right-wing Nationalists, the more they enable and empower the latter, further fraying the fabric of constitutional government. It is time for the Reality Caucus to make a decision and choose its strategy. The status quo is unsustainable.

It has been nearly two weeks since the election. President-elect Joe Biden won the electoral college by 306-to-232. His lead in the popular vote is 5.6 million and growing. Republican efforts to get courts to shut down counting and invalidate huge numbers of votes are being laughed out of court. This is over.
He will not prevail, and everyone knows it. The White House staffers desperately spinning on his behalf know it. The Fox News hosts propagating conspiracy theories about stolen votes know it. Every elected Republican knows it. The only ones who don’t know it are the millions of Trump voters who are the targets of this noxious propaganda campaign, the ones being told that American democracy is worthy of nothing but contempt.
No president in American history has ever before spent the end of his time in office trying to discredit our democracy, degrade the federal government and set Americans against each other. And what of the Republican Party? They, too, are finishing the Trump presidency the way they started it, with a show of complicity and cowardice.
What we deserve is to hear Republicans say to Trump, “Stop this right now. You are hurting the country.”
The leader of your party is pouring poison into our national bloodstream, and if you can’t find the courage to say it’s wrong, don’t ever try to tell us again how patriotic you are.
