  1. A Portland police officer is facing assault charges, stemming from his use of force during one of last year’s protests. Officer Corey Budworth was caught on film striking photo journalist Teri Jacobs in the back of the head with his baton. The police bureau’s internal investigation disputes this, calling the baton strike unintentional. (Portland Mercury)
  2. Gunfire and a car chase resulted in damage to a home in Northeast Portland. Residents near NE 109th and Oregon street report hearing gunshots just before 5:00 PM and security cams in the area show a white SUV pursued by a white sedan. The driver of the white SUV took a path through a side yard near a house, taking a chunk out of the corner of its garage, before crashing into a fence. (KPTV)
  3. The debate surrounding the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Rose Quarter project to widen and cover the I-5 highway continues, as a new report about the cost comes to light. San Francisco-based contractor Arup has recommended that ODOT select a narrower design than what is currently planned. ODOT does not agree. (Willamette Week)
  4. Dr. Josh Grill of the UC Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders is looking for volunteers in the Portland area to help find a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. The AHEAD study seeks healthy individuals 55 to 80 years who may be at risk for the disease. (KATU)
  5. Environmentally conscious individuals who are wondering how eco-friendly their end of life plans can be now have a new option available to them. Gov. Kate Brown has signed House Bill 2574, which legalizes human composting. The law goes into effect on July 1st, 2022. (The Columbian)

  2. In a city already replete with great places to drink beer, we’re about to get more! Chuckanut Brewery of Bellingham, WA will be opening a taproom in Portland called P Nut. As if that weren’t exciting enough, local favorites Baerlic Brewing will open a third location in Northeast Portland, on Alberta Street, this summer.
  3. The Church of Hive is back at the Star Theater, spinning Goth and Industrial hits to get your booty shaking. Masks and social distancing will be in effect. Sundays at 7:00 PM.
