Landslide Closes NW Cornell Through Monday Morning Commute

Portland Bureau of Transportation urges drivers to obey all road closure and detour signs.

A landslide has forced the closure of Northwest Cornell from east of the Audubon Society to Northwest 30th Avenue. The closure will last through the Monday morning commute.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation says the closure could last even longer.

PBOT says because the slide occurred after dark, their engineers won't be able to assess the site until Monday morning.

The bureau has placed road closure and detour signs and is asking drivers to obey them.

"If drivers ignore the signs, they are potentially putting themselves, other travelers and PBOT crews at risk," the bureau said in a release.

As a result of the closure - combined with the fact that West Burnside has only one lane open in each direction - travelers should expect a potentially slower than usual Monday morning commute, PBOT says.
