West Burnside to Remain Shut Through Friday - If Not Next Week

The road is closed from NW 23rd to NW Skyline because of a 50-yard landslide.

West Burnside Street will remain closed through the Friday afternoon - if not into next week - as workers from the Portland Bureau of Transportation clear the 50-yard landslide that occurred Wednesday night.

Burnside is closed from Northwest Skyline Boulevard to Northwest 23rd Avenue.

PBOT urges people to alternative routes and avoid the area. They suggest using U.S. 26 or Northwest Cornell Road as alternatives as well as public transit.

Local access for residents only is permitted westbound to Northwest Uptown Terrace and eastbound to Northwest Maywood Drive and Northwest Hermosa Boulevard. and nearby streets.

PBOT says that the debris continued to slide on Thursday and that engineers are still trying to assess the stability of the area.

They say that numerous downed trees - including a 100-foot Douglas fir next to a home - must be removed before the engineers can determine what needs to be done to make the roadway safe for crews and the public.

An estimated at least 75 cubic yards of material must be removed by PBOT crews, potentially taking six to 12 dump truck loads.
