Military Appreciation Night At The Grotto's Festival Of Lights

Military servicemen, servicewomen, and their families get into the Christmas Festival of Lights free on Thursday, Dec. 7, with military ID.

PORTLAND, OR — Tonight is Military Appreciation Night at The Grotto's 30th annual Christmas Festival of Lights, offering all active and former servicemen, servicewomen, and their families free admission to six concert performances beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Military families will be asked to provide military identification to receive free entry Thursday, Dec. 7, to The Grotto at 8840 N.E. Skidmore St. in Portland.

Performances will include the Frontier Middle School Concert Choir, the Salmon Creek Singers, PCC's Rock Creek Choirs, the Oregon SenateAires Barbershop, the Ebenezer Concord Choir, and headliner General Arnold Fields, who will perform at 6:45 p.m. in the Chapel of Mary.

From Nov. 24 to Dec. 30, the Grotto's Christmas Festival of Lights showcases nearly 160 indoor holiday concerts — making it the largest Christmas choral festival in the world, according to promoters. Choirs represent schools, churches and community groups from throughout the region, offering family-friendly arrangements from traditional to modern. Additionally, visitors can enjoy caroling, puppet shows and a live petting zoo.

  • $11 for general admission;
  • $10 for seniors 65 years and older and military personnel; and
  • $6 for children 3 to 12 years; children under 2 get in free.

Tickets are sold at the gate from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The venue closes at 10 p.m.
