One Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Portland

Police said the incident happened in the area of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Harvey Milk Street.

PORTLAND, OR -- A person died early Sunday following an officer-involved shooting in Portland. Police said the incident happened in the area of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Harvey Milk Street.

Officers apparently heard shots fired in the area when they "engaged a subject" and an officer-involved shooting began, police said.

Police said officers "only engaged one person after that person had been involved in a shooting where two other persons were shot and injured."

The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, police said.

Police did not identify the person killed in the shooting, but protesters, who were gathered at the scene of the incident, shouted a name.

Police said detectives and the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.

Per policy, the involved officers will remain on paid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation and grand jury, police said.
