PORTLAND, OR — Newly release surveillance video shows the moments right after an Oregon high school football coach disarmed a student with a gun on campus. The video is from an incident in May when the armed student walked into a classroom at Parkrose High School in Portland.

At the time, police said a staff member confronted the student at some point inside the classroom, and when authorities reached the school the student had been detained in the hallway. The video released by the Multnomah County District Attorney on Friday shows the football coach, Keanon Lowe and the student, Angel Granado Diaz, 18, as they exited the classroom.

Diaz is dressed in a long black trench coat as the pair exits the classroom while Lowe is holding the gun. After another staff member rushes to take the weapon from Lowe, the football coach tightly embraces Diaz. You can watch the full video below, which was published by The Oregonian:

According to a report in KPTV, Granados-Diaz pleaded guilty to gun charges last week and was sentenced to three years probation. Citing court documents, the news channel reported the incident was a suicide attempt and that the student never intentionally pointed the gun at anyone but himself.

Lowe, a former football standout at the University of Oregon, was hailed as a hero for disarming the student.
