Portland A Cappella Group Will Compete In LA
B-Side Book Club will perform in LA at The International Championship of A Cappella Open semi-finals around mid-July.

From B Side Book Club: For the past 22 years, Varsity Vocals has organized tournaments that bring together nearly 500 a cappella groups from around the globe. The tournaments have historically been organized into two categories, collegiate and high school a cappella.
As a cappella gained popularity over the past few years, Varsity Vocals developed what has been called “the best new a cappella competition in the world” - The International Championship of A Cappella Open, or 'The Open'.
The Open competition brings together groups of any age, experience, and origin to compete for a cash prize of $25,000.

This year, Portland’s very own B-Side Book Club is headed to LA to compete in the semi-finals round of The 2018 Open. Semi-finals are organized by regions in the West, Midwest, New England, Northeast, and ‘virtual’, with the winning groups moving on to compete in a final round at Carnegie Hall.
Within the Western semi-final round, B-Side Book Club is the sole representative of the Pacific Northwest and will be facing groups from Colorado, Arizona, and California.

B-Side Book Club is a group of friends and musicians based in Portland, OR that began rehearsing together in the fall of 2015. With 13 members, they resemble more of a small choir than a typical 5-person a cappella group.
Their eclectic mix of styles - ranging from folk, funk, barbershop, and choral music - showcase their unique divergence from 'typical' a cappella.
B-Side was recently featured on KGW’s Monday Mic Check program, where they sang an original song, titled ‘Cavalry’, from their recently released EP.
The group has performed for All Classical Portland, collaborated with Third Rail Repertory Theatre, won the Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition, placed 2nd in the regional Harmony Sweepstakes, and has performed at multiple festivals and private events around the Pacific Northwest.
Although new to the competition scene, B-Side Book Club hopes to win over audiences with their authenticity and creative musical style.
