Portland Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Program Moving East

The site will have six charging stations with two types of connectors accommodating all kinds of electric vehicles. It will open in 2019.

PORTLAND, OR – Here's a story that you can get a charge out of. At least your car will. Portland General Electric is expanding their electric vehicle charging station program eastward.

They say that they are building a new charging hub at Eastport Plaza Shopping Plaza by Holgate Boulevard.

As with other PGE "Electric Avenues," this one will have six stations, each with two kinds of connectors, so that all electric vehicles can be accommodated.

"We are thankful for the partnership with Mayor Wheeler and the City of Portland's Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, which is another example of how working together accelerates Oregon’s transition to a clean energy future."

Wheeler says this charging station, along with the others already built and the ones planned, will help the city reach its plans for climate action and reaching 100 percent renewables by 2050.

"I am thrilled that PGE is installing this infrastructure in East Portland," Wheeler says. "The electric vehicle charging hub at Eastport Plaza will incorporate technology in communities where access has not been previously prioritized."

Pope says that Eastport Plaza is just one of a half-dozen new stations being planned for the region. There will also be stations in Milwaukie and Hillsboro.

In each case, PGE will own and maintain the stations at no cost to the cities.

PGE says that a standard charge fee will be $3, and a quick charge will cost $5. Customers can also choose a $25 monthly subscription to use all of their "Electric Avenue" locations.

PGE’s original Electric Avenue, located at its World Trade Center headquarters, has charged more than 1.25 million miles of driving since it opened in October 2015.

PGE says that the result is that drivers avoided releasing more than 515 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the air.
