Portland Forecast Says Thursday Morning Commute Should Be Icy

If you're driving somewhere Thursday morning, give yourself lots of time. The commute is expected to be slick if not actually icy.

PORTLAND, OR – It won't be as bad as Wednesday. That's the good news. The bad news is that the Thursday morning commute may still be tricky.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service's Portland office say that while they're not seeing accumulating snow, there will be other problems.

They say that a combination of possible snow showers or rain, mixed with freezing temperatures Wednesday night into Thursday morning should make the roads slick if not icy.

As always, the higher you go, the more likely you will feel the impact. People at elevations between 500 and 1,000 feet might want to give themselves some extra time in the morning.

Hundreds of workers will have spent Wednesday night from Portland to Oregon City, from Gresham to Hillsboro to Lake Oswego, and from Beaverton to Wilsonville will be ready to plow, ready to put deicer on the roads, and dropping sand and gravel.

There are thousands of miles – almost 5,000 in Portland alone – to be cared for across the three counties.
