Portland Forecast Says Snow Overnight Will Bring Messy AM Commute

The National Weather Service forecasters are saying rain will turn to snow and the morning commute on Monday will be slippery.

PORTLAND, OR – Monday's commute is a perfect example of being prepared for the worst. That way, if it's not so bad, you're pleasantly surprised. If it is, you're prepared.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service's Portland office are saying that there should be a decent amount of snow on the ground by the time the commute really gets underway.

There's a Winter Storm Watch in effect through Monday afternoon. Forecasters say that by the time it's over, there will be up to two inches on the ground in Portland, two inches in Oregon City, and up to six inches on the ground in Hood River.

Forecasters say that the rain, which will have started Sunday night, will turn to full snow by 5 a.m..

Around midday, they say that the snow will start to taper off.

Officials from the Portland Bureau of Transportation and other agencies say that they have plows and salt trucks ready to go.
