Portland Named Best Region for New-Collar Jobs

College ranking site places Portland in the number one spot for new-collar jobs.

As the American education system is going through a drastic change, many students are now contemplating their futures more than ever. While many are now forced to attend classes online until the summer and possibly even further, some may be looking into what new-collar jobs have to offer.

New-collar jobs are a new option differing from the typical blue and white-collar jobs that traditionally run society. New-collar jobs are defined as a set of careers that require a specific professional skill set but don’t necessarily require a bachelor’s degree.

Recently College Consensus named Portland, Oregon as the best region for new-collar jobs with occupational fields such as health care, technology, and engineering/manufacturing being some of the highly popular and sought after job fields. College Consensus, (often referred to as the Rotten Tomatoes of college rankings), serves as the go-to resource for students to compare colleges and universities with real student reviews and professional publisher rankings.

Currently, as there are shortages in the job market throughout fields requiring a professional/vocational education, College Consensus has shared that cloud architects, data analysts, web designers, database administrators, and help desk associates are all in high demand in the tech field. While many people who have those jobs didn’t earn a college degree, their willingness and persistence to learn in a new industry landed them the job.

“As people move away from spending tens of thousands of dollars on a college education only to find a low-paying job, becoming a new collar professional is looking smarter than ever. Earning a certificate or professional license is not something that is looked down upon – it’s seen as a smart career move amongst professionals who want to rise to the top of their fields as soon as possible.”
