Portland Public Schools Moves Forward On Redrawing Boundaries
Portland Public Schools approved a contract to hire a company to develop new boundaries with an eye toward redrawing them for 2020-21.

PORTLAND, OR – Portland Public Schools is getting ready to redraw district boundary lines. The school board approved a $296,000 contract with a company to undertake the project on Tuesday night.
It's the first time that the district has hired an outside company to develop recommendations for the new boundaries.
The plan is to have them in place for the 2020-21 school year.

The new boundaries would likely affect the majority of the district's 49,000 students, which would make it the largest changes to district lines undertaken by the district in years.
It would also be significantly larger than the most recent redistricting, which resulted in the new lines that turned Roseway Heights into a middle school.
The largest part of the contract will go toward gathering feedback from parents and community members.
FLO will study the current boundaries and provide the district with a preliminary assessment in July with a plan to develop three separate proposals that the district will examine.
The plans will then be presented to community members for input.
