Road To Multnomah Falls Open Again After Eagle Creek Fire Damage

It's been more than one year after the Eagle Creek Fire but, on Friday, a six-mile stretch of the Columbia River Highway finally reopened.

PORTLAND, OR – If it seems like it's been a while since you've been able to travel the Historic Columbia River Highway over to Multnomah Falls, it's because it has. Ever since the Eagle Creek Fire started devouring land in the area in Sept. 2017, much of the road has been closed.

That changed on Friday.

The Oregon Department of Transportation announced that, as of 11 a.m. on Nov. 23, a long-closed six-mile stretch has been reopened.

That means that you can once again drive between Bridal Veil and Ainsworth State Park. That stretch had been closed since Step. 4, 2017.

ODOT says the reason for the long wait was that around 9,000 trees that had been in danger of falling on to the road had to be removed and more than 3,000 feet of protective fencing installed.

The fencing will limit some parking but at least you will once again to be drive the route and enjoy the view.
