TriMet Says Everyone Will Have To Hop On The Hop Pass Bandwagon

If you've become used to using the TriMet ticket app on your smartphone, it's time to get used to the fact that things change.

PORTLAND, OR – Everything changes. Sometimes, sooner than you would like. That's why TriMet is letting people know that in 2019, the smartphone ticketing app that many people have become accustomed to using, will be going away.

The app, which debuted in 2013 and allowed users to buy tickets is being replaced by the agency's Hop Fastpass program.

The program, which TriMet started using last year, allows users to only pay for the rides that they take each day, with a limit on the daily fare at $5.

TriMet says it's time to make the change as Hop becomes more popular. The agency says that in October, one out of every four rides were purchased through Hop Fastpass compared to just 13 percent of which were bought through the app.

TriMet has not yet set a date for when the app will go away but says it will be in 2019.

They plan to give people plenty of time to make the switch.
