Union Gospel Mission to Dish Out 600 Christmas Day Meals

Union Gospel Mission will serve 600 free meals on Christmas Day near downtown Portland to anyone in need.

PORTLAND, OR - Union Gospel Mission will provide 600 free meals on Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to anyone in need.

"We are excited to offer a Christmas Day meal to our neighbors who are homeless or struggling," said Bill Russell, Union Gospel Mission's executive director. "Our volunteers make it a special day by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere."

Over 140 volunteers will be involved in preparing the meal and serving at the event.

The Christmas meal menu is ham, candied yams, green beans with bacon bits and onion, Ambrosia fruit salad, dinner rolls with real butter and pies.

In addition to the meal, guest will receive gifts of hats, gloves, socks, and blankets.

Union Gospel Mission has been helping people in Portland since 1927.

Union Gospel Mission is seeking donations of coffee and blankets for the event. Items may be dropped off at 3 NW Third Avenue in Portland or call 503-274-4483. Donations may be made online at www.ugmportland.org.
