Volunteer With These 5 Kid-Focused Portland Nonprofits
Want to help Portland kids thrive? You can donate books and school supplies, volunteer to be a tutor or even take a ride in a luxury car.

PORTLAND, OR - From donating a gently used book to volunteering to tutor a second grader, there are plenty of ways to support the next generation of Portlanders. Check out some of the great work that these local organizations are doing.
- Children's Book Bank is open Monday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. You can volunteer with the Book Bank, and perform a variety of jobs: cleaning books, sorting and bundling them and delivering them to children. If you're feeling extra ambitious, you can host your own book drive-every 150 books donated serves 10 kids.

- Children First For Oregon was founded in 1991 and serves the Portland community by encouraging political officials to vote in favor of bills and policies that support Oregon youth. Their mission is data driven; Oregon's child well-being rate has dropped to 32nd in the nation. The Kids data center is accessible by the general public, so you have access to all of the information. You can support Children First Oregon with a monetary donation.

- Friends of the Children Portland aims to create sustainable, generational change one person at a a time. They were voted Most-Admired Nonprofit in Oregon by the Business Journal in 2015. Friends of the Children has several different ways for people to give. Donate to their annual school supplies drive, join the friendship club and become a monthly donor or sign up to tutor kids in grades K-12 (6 month minimum requirement).

- Dream Drives for Kids provides fragile and terminally ill kids with the opportunity to ride in a luxury vehicle. If you're interested in supporting the Dream Drives mission, you can donate to the foundation. They've partnered with OSHU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and the Children's Cancer Association to provide kids in need with these exciting rides. Want to learn more about Dream Drives for Kids? - Hands On Portland is a one-stop shop for Portlanders looking for volunteer opportunities. In addition to hosting their own fundraisers, craft projects and other workshops, they also have an easy to read volunteer opportunity calendar. You can register to volunteer on the Hands On site, which will allow you to view and sign up for different projects based on the amount of time you have available.
