100-Year-Old Artist's Work To Show In Bensalem

Marjorie Burtis began painting 12 years ago after moving to the Attleboro community in Langhorne.

BENSALEM, PA — Grandma Moses became an icon for a painting career that began when she was 78 and continued until her death at age 101. Well, now, she's got some company from a Bucks County artist.

The work of 100-year-old Marjorie Burtis will be on display at an upcoming show at the Bucks County Visitor Center in Bensalem. The free show opens April 16 at the center and runs through May 15.

It will be open daily from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The visitor center is located at 3207 Street Rd. in Bensalem.

The exhibit will showcase watercolor paintings that Burtis has done since she started painting about 12 years ago, when she moved to the Attleboro community in Langhorne.

"The only artistic thing I could draw was a circle," Burtis said.

A fine arts instructor at Attleboro noticed Burtis's talent when she began taking a painting class there. Her paintings are done in a realist style.

The exhibit will kick off with a reception for Burtis, including a birthday cake, from 2-4:30 p.m. on April 16.
