100s Of Bucks County Cats Need Homes, Shelter Says

To help them find homes, the Women's Humane Society is now running a $9 adoption promotion on all cats nine months and older.

More than 100 cats need homes in Bucks County. To help them find loving companions, the Women’s Humane Society in Bensalem is now running a $9 adoption promotion on all cats nine months and older.

"Like most animal shelters throughout the region and around the country, the Society experiences a marked increase in animal intake and owner surrenders every summer, while at the same time facing the challenges of decreased adoption interest as public focus turns to travel and vacations," the shelter said in an announcement.

This issue is exacerbated in the case of cats, as the summer season is also the height of “kitten season,” when shelters are flooded with litters of homeless or orphaned kittens and nursing cat mothers, the shelter said in an announcement.

“Adult and senior cats are typically independent, mellow, house trained and grateful, and make wonderful companions. But they can also have trouble finding the new homes they need, and are typically passed over for kittens or younger cats,” said Gwen Kaminski, director of development and community relations for the Women’s Humane Society.

The $9 adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchip and free or discounted services in the shelter's veterinary hospital.
