7 Bensalem Students Won $2,000 In Mayor’s Scholarship Awards

Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and Bensalem Township announced the 2021 winners in a video posted on Monday.

BENSALEM, PA — Bensalem Township announced the recipients of the 2021 Mayor’s Scholarship Awards in a charming video posted on Monday. While he couldn’t honor students in person, Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo said checks had been mailed to the honorees.

“All of the youngsters: I want to thank them so much for participating!” he said in the video.

Created more than 17 years ago, the Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo Scholarship Foundation aims to support students in Bensalem who will be pursuing higher education. Graduating student winners receive $2,000 each to put toward their college tuition payments.

This year, the scholarship had seven recipients: Maritza Vanessa Garcia, Alexis Girard, Madeline Jeter, Carly Krieger, Allison Loper, Ryan Mitchell, and Shayna Sit.

Scholarship winners demonstrate “qualities of leadership, good citizenship, and scholastic ability.” The application asks for information about personal and financial background, as well as a 500-word essay about what students hope to accomplish after earning their degree.

Future graduates should note that scholarship applications are often due in April.

“I’m very proud to have this foundation, and look forward to years to come,” DiGirolamo said.
