Bensalem Woman On Girl's Trip Stuck In Puerto Rico During Hurricane Maria, Report Says

A Bensalem woman in Puerto Rico for a girl's trip is now stranded there just as Hurricane Maria is expected to make a direct hit.

A Bensalem woman who traveled to Puerto Rico for a girl's trip is now stranded on the island just as Hurricane Maria is expected to make a direct hit, according to a report by NBC10.

The station reports that Alex McLaughlin arrived in Rincón Saturday night for a vacation, along with her friend Haley Connaughton of Doylestown. The next day, they found out about Hurricane Maria.

Originally scheduled to depart Friday, the two woman tried unsuccessfully to get an earlier flight. They've now been evacuated from their original hotel to another building, and have stock piled what little water and food they could find, NBC10 reported.

Maria had maximum sustained winds of 175 mph on Tuesday. The storm is expected to hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday. It is the first storm of its strength to hit the US territory in nearly 80 years, CNN reports.
