Lanes Closing On Street Road, U.S. 1 In Bensalem

Starting Wednesday, work will resume on the project to rebuilding and upgrade U.S. 1 in Bucks County.

BENSALEM, PA — Lanes will be closed on U.S. 1 and Street Road in Bensalem starting Wednesday for the construction going on in the area.

In addition to road and bridge construction, crews will be surveying for future work on the project to widen and improve U.S. 1 in Bucks County, PennDOT announced.

The following closures are planned:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 9, through Saturday, Sept. 12., from 6 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, from 8 p.m.-6 a.m., there will be single-lane closures on northbound or southbound U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway
  • Wednesday, Sept. 9, through Saturday, Sept/ 12, from 6 a.m.-3 p.m., and Wednesday through Friday, from 8 p.m.-6 a.m., there will be single-lane closures on eastbound or westbound Street Road between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way
  • Wednesday, Sept. 9, and Thursday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m.-3 p.ml., alternating northbound or southbound lane closures will be in place on U.S. 1 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Bensalem interchange and Business Route 1 for surveying and other activities

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns are expected.

According to PennDOT, crews currently are rebuilding the middle section along 1.3 miles of U.S. 1 and the middle section of Street Road during the second major phase of the project. Work on the $95.1 million project is expected to continue through late 2022.

The Bensalem project is the first part of a bigger plan to rebuild and widen U.S. 1, replace aging bridges and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.
