Multiple Crashes Block PA Turnpike In Bensalem

A tractor-trailer hit a concrete barrier shortly before 6 a.m., knocking chunks of it onto the highway.

BENSALEM, PA — Heavy delays and congestion on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bensalem were being reported Thursday morning, after a tractor-trailer hit a concrete barrier, leading to several other crashes.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission reported multiple crashes causing closures on both eastbound and westbound sides of I-276 shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday. By 8 a.m., lanes had been reopened, but heavy congestion and delays continued, the commission said.

6abc reported that a truck struck the barrier at around 5:40 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the turnpike about one mile west of the Bensalem interchange. Debris from that crash flew into the westbound lanes, where drivers hit the concrete and ended up with flat tires, the station reported.
