Owner Of Eatery Collecting Cards For Boy With Autism

Jay's Steak & Hoagie Joint owner Jay Green of Langhorne and his customers are helping make the holiday season bright for a boy with autism.

The years have waned but a Middletown business owner hasn’t forgotten the promise he made to the dad of a little boy in North Carolina.

This year, as he has the past several, Jay’s Steak and Hoagie Joint owner Jay Green of Langhorne and his customers are helping make the holidays bright for an autistic boy hundreds of miles from his shop.

The businessman is willing to mail down boxes the letters again for the boy in order to spread holiday cheer as part of the “Letters for Liam” campaign.

In 2014, Liam Cannon’s dad, Cameron, was talking to Green and told him his son is autistic and enjoys getting mail. The conversation inspired Green to collect Christmas letters and cards from his customers and send them to 14-year-old Liam.

The day after talking to Green, Cameron Cannon, who grew up in Langhorne, passed away suddenly and Liam and his mom were left with a huge void to fill.

The death pushed Green, whose popular eatery centers around giving back to the community, to try even harder to make sure Liam receives a mountain of letters for Christmas.

In the years since the program started, the number of letters received has dwindled and Green wants to be able to provide Liam with stack this Christmas season.

“This year I’m on slim pickins … and I’m hoping we can get more cards in,” Green said. “Every card counts in Liam’s world.

Local school kids, customers, church congregations and even strangers have contributed cards to the Letters for Liam campaign. Cards have come in over the years from as far away as California and Texas.

The Letters for Liam campaign is one of many great causes that Green helps out. In the past few years, Green has donated thousands of pounds of food to those in need, collected hundreds of coats to keep area kids warm, worked with local first responders to help raise funds and assisted local residents trying to get back on their feet with a job at his one-of-a-kind shop.

To contribute a card, either drop off your holiday card/letter or mail to Jay’s Steak and Hoagie Joint, 1205 Highland Avenue, Parkland, PA 19047.
