Public Viewing Scheduled For Bensalem State Trooper

BENSALEM, PA — A public viewing has been scheduled for the Pennsylvania state trooper from Bensalem who died Saturday in Bucks County while on duty.

State police say Trooper Donald C. Brackett, 58, suffered a "medical episode" while patrolling on I-276 in Bucks County on Saturday. On Tuesday, flags across the state were flying at half-staff in his honor by order of Gov. Tom Wolf.

"Frances and I send our deepest condolences to Trooper Brackett’s family and fellow troopers," Wolf said in a written statement. "Trooper Brackett chose a life of service and we will always be indebted to him and his family for their sacrifice."

State police announced that a public viewing for Brackett will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home in Philadelphia. The viewing is set for 6 p.m. at the funeral home, at 10975 Academy Rd.

Funeral service arrangements were to be released some time this week, state police said.

Brackett was based out of Troop T in King of Prussia.

According to state police, he had not answered recent radio transmissions so they dispatched troopers to investigate. Brackett was found outside of his patrol vehicle, near mile marker 351.9, authorities said. He was unresponsive.

Officers began CPR and medical teams immediately transported him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
