U.S. 1, Street Road, Turnpike Lane Closures Planned Next Week

BENSALEM, PA — Roadwork in Bensalem continues next week with lots of closures planned, including lanes on U.S. 1, Street Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The closures are for the ongoing project to widen and improve U.S. 1 and its interchange at Street Road. Most of them next week will be in the overnight and early-morning hours.

PennDOT on Wednesday announced the following closures:

• Sunday, March 15, through Thursday, March 19. From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on the eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike at the U.S. 1 overpass for bridge construction.
• Sunday, March 15, through Thursday, March 19. From 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike at the U.S. 1 overpass for bridge construction.
• Sunday March 15, through Friday, March 20. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, periodic single lane closures will be in place on northbound or southbound U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway for roadway and bridge construction.
• Sunday March 15, through Friday, March 20. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, westbound Street Road will be reduced to one lane between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way for water line installation.
• Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21. From 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike at the U.S. 1 overpass for bridge construction.
• Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22. From 12:01 a.m. to 9 a.m., single lane closures will be in place on the eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike at the U.S. 1 overpass for bridge construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns are expected. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

Crews are now rebuilding the middle section along 1.3 miles of U.S. 1, the westbound side of Street Road and the westbound Street Road ramps to and from northbound U.S. 1.

Ongoing activities also include construction of the center sections of U.S. 1 bridges over Street Road, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the turnpike ramps at the Bensalem interchange and utility installations in the middle of U.S. 1 and on Street Road.
