When Are Next Week's Lane Closures On U.S. 1, Street Road?

Crews currently are rebuilding the middle section of U.S. 1, the westbound side of Street Road and westbound Street Road ramps to U.S. 1.

BENSALEM, PA — Construction work on U.S. 1 in Bensalem will continue next week and that means more lane closures in the area.

Periodic single-lane closures will be in place on U.S. 1 and Street Road from Sunday, Feb. 23, through Friday, Feb. 28. They'll be from 8 p.m.-6 a.m., as crews continue bridge and roadway construction on a project to rebuild and widen a 1.3-mile stretch of U.S. 1.

According to PennDOT, the closures will be:

  • Northbound or southbound U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway
  • Eastbound or westbound Street Road between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns are expected. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

Current activities also include demolition of the center sections of U.S. 1 bridges over Street Road, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the turnpike ramps at the Bensalem interchange, and utility installations in the middle of U.S. 1.

The $95.1 million project is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The project is expected to complete by late 2022.
