BUCKS COUNTY, PA ? Last week we asked you: Who makes the best pizza in Bucks County?

More than 1,400 people responded to our survey aimed at figuring out who serves up the best pie in the county. A clear favorite among the many nominations emerged.

The pizzeria receiving the most nominations was DeLorenzo's in Yardley, with more than 100 readers praising the shop's thin crust tomato pies.

Here's what readers had to say about DeLorezeno's:

  • It?s exactly how it should be. Slightly charred and perfect every time.
  • The sauce, thin crust, the crisp on the bottom as well as the crunch of the crust. You can eat an entire pie in one sitting.
  • Crispy crust, excellent sauce, consistently excellent.
  • Any of the pizza toppings. If you like a classic you can never go wrong with cheese or pepperoni. Anchovies are also fantastic but not for everyone?s taste.

But DeLorenzo's wasn't the only fan favorite, according to our survey.

For traditional pies, Vince's Pizza in Newtown received ample praise from more than 50 Patch readers, who repeatedly cited the shop's fresh ingredients and flavorful topping combinations as the reason for their vote. "Perfectly made pizza, highest quality ingredients," one reader said about Vince's. Another noted it has "the best combo of texture (chewy but crispy), full flavored sauce and a balanced amount of cheese."

Other top contenders in our survey that serve up traditional pies include:

If you prefer wood-fired pizza, Acqua e Farina in Newtown, Sputino in Doylestown, Itri in Bristol and Meglio in Newtown are among the clear favorites for that style, according to our survey results. Spuntino in Doylestown was recognized for its authentically Italian wood-fired pies with toppings like buffalo mozzarella and spicy salami.

Others lauded the crust at Itri. "The wood fired pizza at Itri has an amazing crust," raved one reader. "Crisp on the bottom but chewy and delicious!"

Overall, when it comes to what makes a great pizza, the crust and sauce seem to be the biggest factors for Bucks County pizza lovers.

Readers highlighted pizzerias that nail the ideal sauce, describing it as "delicious and not too sweet" with "a great tomato flavor." The best crusts were often described as "thin," "crispy" and having the perfect chew and crunch.

All in all, the passion Bucks County residents have for pizza is clear. With an emphasis on traditional preparations, quality ingredients, and of course, the all-important crust and sauce, the area's Italian eateries and pizzerias know how to serve up a mighty fine pie.
