Bucks Beautiful Planting 60K Bulbs In Doylestown Area This Fall

Students at Bridge Valley Elementary will participate in one of the plantings in memory of a classmate who passed away last year.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Bucks Beautiful, non-profit organization that beautifies Bucks County by coordinating gardening events, community projects and educational programs, is planning to plant 60,000 daffodil bulbs in Bucks County this fall.

The bulbs will be planted around Doylestown and Buckingham, including at Bridge Valley Elementary School, the Rt. 611 bypass, between route 313 and Route 202, and Pine Run Retirement Community.

According to information from Bucks Beautiful, students at Bridge Valley Elementary School in Furlong will participate by planting bulbs to memorialize Aum Kalanuria, a first-grade student who passed away last April.

The Bulbs for Bucks Program, launched in 2010, was the inspiration of board member Chuck Gale.

“I like the idea of planting daffodils because the bulbs multiply each year, and the project is long-lasting for future generations to enjoy what we are doing now. To my knowledge, this is the largest bulb planting project in the state of Pennsylvania," Gale said in a news release announcing the most recent effort.

In 2010, 40,000 daffodil bulbs were planted along the Route 611 Bypass near Doylestown. The next phases included plantings along the Delaware Canal State Park towpath, the Route 202 Parkway, the Bucks County Tourist Center in Bensalem, Buckingham Green Shopping Center, the Michener Art Museum, Fonthill Castle, and areas around Newtown and Perkasie.

To date, more than 1.5 million daffodil bulbs have been established throughout Bucks County, the organization said.

This year's planting will be funded by money raised during the organization's 25th Anniversary Kitchen & Garden Tour. Bucks Beautiful is working in partnership with Gale Nurseries to make the latest planing possible.

If you'd like to participate, you can purchase daffodil bulbs through the organization. Fifty bulbs are $25.00.
