BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A man will serve 20 to 40 years in state prison after he admitted killing a young Bucks County father nearly 16 years ago.

Daman Andrew Smoot pleaded guilty Monday to killing Adam Brundage at a quarry in Hilltown Township in 2004. Authorities say Smoot struck Brundage in the head with a baseball bat, then used his hand to cover his mouth and nose until he died before burying him in the quarry.

Brundage, then 26, was reported missing soon after his death. Smoot, now 37, was Brundage's roommate at the time of his disappearance.

Smoot told investigators he killed Brundage the evening of Oct. 4, 2004, at the quarry on Skunk Hollow Road in Hilltown Township where Smoot worked. The men had gone to the quarry for sand to fix a grading issue at Brundage’s home and had an argument.

The case went unsolved for years but was reopened earlier this year. Investigators located his remains the Chalfont quarry on Jan. 16, and charged Smoot in connection with his death.

Smoot pleaded guilty to third-degree murder during a hearing that was described as emotional. It included victim impact statements from multiple family members, including one via video from his grandmother.

Smoot and Brundage met through mutual friends and were roommates at Brundage’s Glen Meadow Court home for only a few weeks before his murder.
